About Me
Growing up on a dairy farm in a small agrarian community in South Carolina, I learned the value of hard work and integrity from an early age. While it was far from idyllic, this upbringing instilled in me a groundedness and a strong work ethic that has shaped my personal and professional life.
I started my academic journey at Clemson University, intending to become a veterinarian. However, my focus shifted from the well-being of animals to that of people, and I graduated with a B.A. in Political Science and Economics.
In 1981, I was awarded a Master’s Degree in Counseling from the University of Georgia, marking the beginning of my journey into psychology.
For several years, I worked as a guidance counselor for preteens and teens in a school system and later at a psychiatric hospital. I returned to the University of Georgia to complete a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, where I discovered my passion and aptitude for working with couples, earning a Certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy. To further enhance my skills, I have taken advanced courses in the Gottman Method.
About the Gottman Method
The Gottman Method is a scientifically-based approach to couples therapy, developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman. This method focuses on strengthening the relationship's friendship, managing conflict constructively, and creating shared meaning. With its foundation in over 40 years of research, the Gottman Method equips couples with practical tools to improve communication, deepen intimacy, and resolve disagreements.

In my practice, I utilize the Gottman Method to help couples develop healthier, more fulfilling relationships. Through structured interventions and exercises, couples learn to build a solid foundation of trust and commitment, transforming their interactions and enhancing their emotional connection.

Whether addressing individual issues or relationship dynamics, my goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where clients can gain insights, develop coping strategies, and foster meaningful change. By blending traditional methods with innovative techniques, I help clients navigate their journeys toward healthier, more fulfilling lives.
My Approach
My approach is centered on creating a nurturing and non-judgmental space for couples to explore their challenges and strengthen their bond. I am committed to providing personalized care and support to help couples navigate through their relationship journey. My focus is to empower couples with the tools and insights needed to foster a deeper connection and resilience in their relationship.
